The ecology research programme in the Department of Biology UPM focuses on the relations of organisms to one another and to their natural environment. Research on the processes influencing the distribution and abundances of organisms and the transformation as well as the flux of energy and matter are also conducted. These include researches in the field of ecotoxicology, entomology, epidemiology, mycology, phycology, and wildlife ecology in terrestrial, riverine and coastal environments. The findings of these researches have been published in peer reviewed journals, books, periodic publications and presented in international and local seminars, conferences and workshops. In addition, the findings have also been shared with members of the public through collaborations between the local authorities, schools, non-governmental agencies and international collaborators about the importance of ecological studies, especially relationship between living and non-living components in an ecosystem.
