The research activities will focused on the fundamental properties of materials and related experimental techniques applicable in research areas ranging from condense matter physics, molecular, and to nuclear, radiation physics and optics. The main research interests are compound semiconductor materials (III-V semiconductors).  The epitaxial growth (MOCVD), characterization and electronic processes in the III-V semiconductor nanowires and devices are related to their use in nanotechnology, photovoltaic properties and optoelectronic applications. Other research activities will focus on carbon nanostructures systems, in particular carbon nanotubes and graphitic nano fibres.  The main interests would be the preparation and processing of these novel materials, their properties and characterizations, and materials functionalization. Other research interests also include nanostructured coatings using CVD, PVD, sol-gel and electro catalyst preparations of materials for fuel cell applications.

The group also works on elemental analysis of natural and anthropogenic sediments and natural products using instrumentation nuclear activation analysis (INAA) as well as the synthesis and modification of polymers by gamma irradiation technique.

Physics Literacy, Simulations and Multimedia

This research focuses the attention of the physicist on aspects of the processes of teaching and learning physics and the development of quality and effective topical learning modules and visualization tools. The primary motivation for this research is the common conceptual and reasoning difficulties that students encounter in studying physics. Therefore the group has a broad range of research interests that include the development of computer/web-based instructions, interactive on-line lectures, multimedia physics visualizations, and simulations, and the design and development of new physics experiments and demonstrations.
