MASTER IN MATERIALS PHYSICS

Master in Materials Physics is a 40-credit coursework based graduate program including 6 credits of dissertation (3 credits for each of the 2 semesters). Objective of this program is to produce graduates who are knowledgeable and skilful in the physics of materials. This program also offers an opportunity for advanced studies and career development in the related fields. Career options for graduates of this program are wide ranging from government to private sectors related to materials physics. Teaching and learning are based on both conventional and modern approaches including lecture, tutorial, laboratory work, project and assignment, case study, seminar, critical comment and dissertation. A student may complete the study of this program in a minimum period of 2 semesters and a maximum period of 6 semesters. Activities of teaching and learning are conducted on weekend or evening during weekdays for the convenience of those who have work commitment.

Course Evaluation 

Evaluation is based on continued assessment through project, assignment, laboratory work, report, presentation, test and examination. Dissertation is evaluated at the end of the second semester.

 

Entry Requirement

Local applicant:

  • A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.750 or equivalent, as accepted by the UPM Senate; or
  • A bachelor’s degree degree in the field or related fields with range CGPA of 2.500 to CGPA 2.749 can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment by Faculty/School/Institute; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent with a range of CGPA 2.000 to CGPA 2.499, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment by Faculty/School/Institute.

International applicant:

  • Must fulfil the same requirements as the local applicant
  • Non-native English speaking applicants must obtain a minimum score of 550 for TOEFL or band 6.0 for IELTS

 

Special Offer

(a) Category Discount A

A discount of 30% on credit fees for Master in Materials Physics Program in the Department of Physics for students who are part of one of the following groups:

(i) Alumni,

(ii) Alumni's child,

(iii) Alumni's spouse,

(iv) Child of UPM staff (permanent),

(v) Spouse of UPM staff (permanent),

(vi) UPM pensioner,

(vii) Spouse of UPM pensioner,

(viii) Child of UPM pensioner,

(ix) Educators under the Ministry of Education Malaysia without sponsorship,

(x) Educators under the Majlis Amanah Rakyat without sponsorship, and

(xi) Civil servants without sponsorship.

 

(b) Category Discount B

(i) A discount of 10% on credit fees if any company/organization registers a minimum of five (5) staff to pursue MSKK studies in the Faculty of Science (FS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM);

(ii) For any individual who is eligible for both discounts above, they can only choose one discount only; and

(iii) This discount on credit fees will be reviewed every two (2) years.
