Serdang, 8 October 2025 – The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) successfully organised Hari Penerangan Jabatan Fizik Sesi 2025/2026, held at the Dewan Kuliah Sains, Faculty of Science, UPM. The programme aimed to welcome new students and provide them with an early introduction to the academic structure, advisory system, and student activities within the department.

The event began with an opening speech and staff introduction delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Mustafa Awang Kechik, Head of the Department of Physics. In his address, he emphasised the importance of curiosity, discipline, and unity among physics students as key elements for academic success and personal growth. He also congratulated all new students for securing a place in the department and encouraged them to be active in both academic and co-curricular pursuits.

Following that, Dr. Mazliana Ahmad Kamarudin presented a briefing on the Sistem Penasihatan Akademik dan Pendaftaran SMP, ensuring that students understood the course structure, subject registration procedures, and the role of academic advisors in supporting their educational journey at the university.

The programme continued with an academic forum titled “Mencari Titik Kesimbangan: Akademik atau Kokurikulum”, which provided an opportunity for new students to hear experiences and insights from current and former students of the Department of Physics. The forum featured three distinguished panellists: Ahmad Danish Iskandar bin Mohd Fadzil (current student of Bachelor of Science in Physics with Honours), Nor Afiqah binti Nor Asri (alumnus of Bachelor of Science in Physics Education with Honours), and Muhammad Hakimi bin Mohd Khairul Anuar (current student of Bachelor of Science in Materials Physics with Honours). The panellists shared their academic journeys, challenges encountered, and useful tips on balancing studies with campus life. The session received an enthusiastic response from the audience, with many new students actively engaging in the discussion.

The event proceeded with the Ikrar Pelajar Baharu, symbolising the students’ commitment as members of the Department of Physics who uphold integrity and dedication. This was followed by a session with the Kelab Mahasiswa Fizik (KMF), led by its president, Muhammad Irfan bin Muhammad Tayyab. During the session, he introduced the club’s organisational structure, annual activities, and its role as a platform for students to enhance their personal potential, leadership skills, and sense of belonging within the Physics community.

Students were then divided according to their respective programmes for the session with academic advisors. Each group received further explanation from lecturers responsible for their programme’s curriculum. This session aimed to help students understand the course structure, career pathways, and research opportunities available within the department.

Overall, Hari Penerangan Jabatan Fizik 2025/2026 was a great success, achieving its objective of introducing the department to new students while strengthening the bonds between academic staff, students, and alumni of the Department of Physics, UPM.
