Kuala Lumpur, January 30 – The UMDAC Datathon 2024 is an event organized by the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya. This event provides participants with the opportunity to explore and solve real-world challenges using data science techniques. By combining elements of data analysis, participants have the chance to produce statistical modeling and data visualizations to address complex problems and generate practical solutions. With the theme of driving creative and critical thinking, the event enables participants to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world situations.

In this Datathon, third-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) Statistics students from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science, UPM—Jess Ho Jia Qian, Then Yick Jing, and Tacia Tai Dien Rui—along with their supervising lecturer, Dr. Syafrina Abdul Halim, formed a team called Central Limit Legends. They successfully won a consolation prize and brought home a cash reward of RM300. Their team's focus was on analyzing cryptocurrency data to identify the key factors affecting price movements and developing an innovative trading system.

UMDAC Datathon 2024 has become a platform for honing the talents of these young individuals in the field of data science while also sparking solutions that have the potential to change the landscape of data analysis and the cryptocurrency market. Congratulations to the students involved, and may this achievement inspire other students to aim for success in the future.
