This research program focuses on inorganic compounds, with an emphasis on the discovery/development of new, efficient synthetic methodologies, and on the synthesis of complex and/or challenging molecules. Generally, the synthetic targets involve novel structures displaying unique properties. Coordination compounds of particular interest are those that show biological activities. Investigations into the interaction of small molecules with DNA are of particular interest and this has led to the discovery of many potentially therapeutic agents, including antibacterial and anticancer drugs. Luminescent and redox active metal complexes have been structurally and physically characterized for their use as DNA probes. One of the goals is to determine the structure-biological activity relationship of the compounds synthesized using computational studies.
