Applied Radiation

i. Radiation Synthesis

In this process ionizing radiation interacts with matter to cause excitation and ionization of atoms. The subsequent chemical binding effects would alter the exposed materials, yielding desirable chemical and physical properties.

ii. Medical Physics

Recent development of complex radiotherapy treatment in medicine has emphasized the need for a dosimeter ability to measure absorbed dose distributions in three dimensions (3D). Thus, the group has embarked on various types of polymer gel dosimeters.

iii. Neutron Activation Analysis

In this technique thermal neutrons are captured by sample’s nuclei in the nuclear reactor. The excited nuclei undergo decay by emitting delayed g-rays and are detected by a high resolution scintillation counter.

iv. Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM)

Popularity of fuel cells and direct methanol in mobile power applications has motivated the group to develop PEM modified from fluoropolymeric based membranes, involving radiation grafting and sulfonation.
