BIODIVERSITY AND CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES
This research domain deals with both the fundamental and applied sciences of biodiversity. It covers current issues on biodiversity conservation, impacts of human activities on biodiversity, and its conservation and integration methods in the national development of natural resources. It comprises areas of botany, zoology, phylogenesis, traditional and molecular taxonomy, conservation genetics, ethnobotany, mycology and plant pathology including study on mycorrhiza and plant root endophytes, modern application of traditional knowledge, biomechanistic assays of natural products from endemic species, pedobiology, malacology, parasitology, ichthyology, entomology and forest and wildlife conservation. Focus also has been given on the importance of plants and animals biodiversity to economy, medicine and ecotourism activities. In general, researches in biodiversity and conservation are broad and industry friendly. More important, methods of economic valuation of biodiversity management and conservation have to be in place in line with the National Biodiversity Policy and international needs.
