Condensed matter physics examine the structure and behavior of condensed states of matter where interactions between adjacent atoms, molecules, and electrons determine the physical nature of the material. Developments in this field are often of equal importance for technological applications and for improving our fundamental understanding of the nature of matter. The creation and study of new materials is a central goal of this field. The Condensed Matter Physics program at UPM includes a wide range of topics such as semiconductors, metals, ceramics and glass, with strong research efforts in III-V and II-V nanowires dan quantum dots, material made from organic material such as activated carbon, palm-oil but also inorganic and/or synthetic material such as selenium, phosphate, borate, tellurite, chalcogenide and silica-based glass.

Research Highlights:
• The progressive development of complex integrated circuits has resulted in demanding requirements such as increased device densities, higher signal speeds, higher operating frequencies, miniaturization, increased reliability, and reduced costs. This has presented a great challenge to materials scientists who must accelerate development of materials and associated processes to keep pace with the rapidly changing environment. These materials include both active and passive components such as conductors, resistors, dielectrics (capacitors and insulators), varistors, filters, substrates, and sensors.
• Our research group main strength is growth and fabrication of various semiconductor materials, glass and dielectric material through state-of-art technique such as magnetron sputtering, PVD, conventional solid-state (crush and quench), sol-gel, micro-emulsion, co-precipation and mechanical alloying. Characterization of material includes structural, optical, electrical, thermal, acoustic and dielectric properties.
