Profiles

Dr. M. M. Awang Kechik is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). His research focuses on high-temperature superconductors (HTS), particularly flux pinning in superconducting thin films and bulk materials. His research group specialises in the synthesis and development of YBCO and BSCCO superconductors using various approaches, including solid-state reaction, co-precipitation, sol-gel processing, and thermal treatment.

From 2014 to 2016, Dr. Awang Kechik was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Electrical, Electronic and Systems Engineering, University of Birmingham, UK, where he investigated measurement uncertainties in the relative permittivity of thin films and their implications for microwave device design.

He has authored more than 220 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and is a member of the Institute of Physics (IOP) and a Fellow of the Malaysian Solid State Science and Technology Association (MASS).

 


Current Research Interest(s)


Dr. Mohd Mustafa Awang Kechik’s research focuses on high-temperature superconductors (HTS)advanced superconducting materialsand flux-pinning engineering. His work encompasses the synthesis, fabrication, and characterisation of YBCO and BSCCO superconductors in both thin-film and bulk forms. Particular emphasis is placed on defect and microstructural engineering, artificial pinning centres, nanoscale inclusions, and optimisation of processing conditions to enhance critical current density and flux-pinning performance.

His research also explores advanced processing routes, including solid-state reaction, sol-gel, co-precipitation, thermal treatment, and infiltration-growth techniques. Current interests extend towards nanocomposite superconductors, rare-earth-based HTS materials, irradiation-induced pinning, and the development of high-performance superconducting materials for high-field and energy-related applications.
