MASTER IN MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES

Master in Mathematical Sciences is a 40 credit postgraduate programme by coursework inclusive of a 6 credit master dissertation. The objective of this programme is to produce graduates who are competitive, knowledgeable and skillful in Mathematics and also offers an opportunity for advanced studies and career development in Mathematics. This programme emphasizes the theory and applications of mathematics so that the students will be able to apply the knowledge for career advancement in any related professions in the public or private sector. Graduates will also be well prepared to further their studies at the doctoral program. A student pursuing a Master in Mathematical Sciences (Coursework) may complete the programme in a minimum period of one year and a maximum period of two years.

Teaching and learning methods for this programme consist of both conventional and blended learning approaches including lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, assignments, presentations and seminars. The teaching and learning activities are conducted on weekends or after office hours during weekdays.

 

Assessment

Evaluation is based on continuous assessment through assignment, project, oral presentation, test and examination. Dissertation is evaluated at the end of the third semester.

 

Entry Requirement

Local Applicants

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or related discipline with minimum CGPA of 2.75
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or related discipline with at least 2.50 and has not achieved CGPA 2.75 and at least 3 years of working experience in the related field or pass internal assessment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or related discipline but has not achieved CGPA of or its equivalent can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in the related field.

 

International Applicants

  • Must fulfill the same requirements as the local applicant

English Language Requirements for International Students

  • IELTS   : Band score 6.0; or
  • TOEFL  : Overall score of minimum 550

 

Programme Structure

Candidates are required to complete a total of 40 credit hours of coursework. The total number of credit hours include core courses (25 credit hours) and elective courses (15 credit hours).
