MASTER OF APPLIED STATISTICS

Master of Applied Statistics is a 40 credit postgraduate programme by coursework inclusive of a 6 credits mini project. The objective of this programme is to produce graduates who are knowledgeable and skillful in statistics and also offers an opportunity for advanced studies and career development in the field of statistics. It offers a curriculum that provides a balanced approach to the training and education of statistics professionals.

This programme prepares students with advanced knowledge and professional expertise through coursework and application. It exposes them to the latest developments in the field of Applied Statistics. Graduates from this field can have career opportunities in planning, management, research, academia and related industries. A student pursuing a Master of Applied Statistics may complete the programme in a minimum period of three semesters and a maximum period of six semesters (three years).

 

Assessment

Evaluation is based on continuous assessment through assignment, project, oral presentation, test and examination. The dissertation is assessed in the final semester.

 

Entry Requirement

 

Local Applicants

  • A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.750 or equivalent, as accepted by the UPM Senate; or
  • A bachelor’s degree degree in the field or related fields with range CGPA of 2.500 to CGPA 2.749 can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment by Faculty/School/Institute; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent with a range of CGPA 2.000 to CGPA 2.499, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment by Faculty/School/Institute.

 

*Candidates without a related qualification in the field/s or working experience in the relevant fields must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the Faculty/School/Institute.

International Applicants

  • Must fulfill the same requirements as the local applicant

English Language Requirements for International Students

  • IELTS: Band score 6.0; or
  • TOEFL: Overall score of minimum 550
