Number Theory And Cryptography

Number Theory is the study of the properties of integers, as well as related generating functions (analytic number theory), arithmetic in generalizations of the integers (algebraic number theory), the distribution of rational and algebraic numbers within the reals (Diophantine approximation), and countless other topics. There are close connections between number theory and many other areas such as algebraic geometry, combinatorics, cryptography and coding theory.

Cryptography is emerging as a very important high-growth area in information and communications technology (ICT) because it deals with issues in communications security. It depends on a continuing stream of new insights and methods from number theory, arithmetic algebraic geometry, and other branches of algebra, such as primality testing, factoring large integers, lattice-based cryptography, sieve methods, elliptic curve cryptography and discrete log problems.
