Serdang, November 10, 2023 - The success of the Microplastic Video Challenge held online resonates with the announcement of winners today. The event, running from October 1, 2023, to November 9, 2023, actively engaged 26 students from various schools across the country.

 

Initiated in conjunction with National Science Week by Dr. Mohd Rashidi Abdull Manap and his team, the aim was to enhance awareness among Malaysians regarding the issue of microplastics within their communities through the creation of creative videos.

 

The competition involved students from diverse backgrounds, including 9 male and 17 female students representing various ethnicities such as Malay, Chinese, and Indian. The overall competition marked a significant step in increasing understanding of the negative impact of microplastics on the environment.

 

Participants were provided with guidelines and competition terms via Google Docs, categorized into Basic Level, Advanced Level, and Community. They were given a specific timeframe to produce videos addressing the issue of microplastics in their surroundings, and their work was uploaded to the Google Drive links provided by the organizers.

 

Video evaluations were conducted by a panel of judges, and the winners for each category were announced on the official website https://imbc.upm.edu.my/minggu-sains-negara.

 

The winners for the Basic Level category are:

1. First Place: Ain'Syatul Najwa bt Mohd Fathil from SMK Bukit Gambir, Pulau Pinang.
2. Second Place: Alya Nurifqy bt Mohairi from SMK Bukit Gambir, Pulau Pinang.
3. Third Place: Muhammad Faiz Farhan bin Mohd Asmawi from SBPI Rawang, Selangor.

 

Despite the absence of VIP guests, the participants' enthusiasm and the quality of their work made the competition a significant success in raising awareness about the issue of microplastics among the Malaysian population.
