Flying Between Continents for Vibrational Spectroscopy Study on Small Plastics

A total of 40 participants consisting of students, parents, university staff, and representatives from the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM) and the Department of Chemistry Malaysia (KIMIA) attended the Sabbatical Sharing program organized by the Department of Chemistry, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This program featured a sharing by Dr. Mohd Rashidi Abdull Manap, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science UPM, who shared his experiences and research findings during his 9-month sabbatical leave as a Visiting Research Fellow at Lund University, Sweden.
In a presentation titled “Flying Between Continents for Vibrational Spectroscopy Study on Small Plastics”, Dr. Rashidi presented results in the study of microplastics using vibrational spectroscopy techniques such as ATR-FTIR, Raman and O-PTIR. In addition to the technical aspects, he also shared the culture, work practices, and quality of life of the Scandinavian community, thus enriching the participants’ perspectives on the international research ecosystem, environmental sustainability, and knowledge transfer through global collaboration.
